For over 130 years, The Salvation Army has been serving the Sacramento community by coming to the aid women, children, men and families in dire need. The Salvation Army’s many programs assist participants in becoming self-sufficient individuals and productive members of our community… and there is still more to do! As Auxiliary members we work hard and are proud to support The Salvation Army’s local programs.
Helping Handbags
Each year this event features over 400 handbags donated by celebrities and women from our community along with hundreds of wonderful items from local businesses. Women’s Auxiliary members work diligently all year to make this a wonderful experience for over 600 women attending.
Birthday-In-A-Bag
There are no more sad faces from forgotten birthdays at The Salvation Army’s Child Development Center program. The Women’s Auxiliary has a committee that creates a bag full of birthday party supplies for each underprivileged child that attends the child development program. The parents walk away with the supplies to celebrate that special day their child was born and are happy that they can give their child a birthday party they deserve.
Women of Hope
The Women of Hope program offers hope and resources to women who have found themselves in The Salvation Army’s Women’s Shelter or Transitional Housing in Sacramento. Education, training, preparation, and a sense of self-worth is given to each woman to enable her the tools to find a job and to discover a new future.
The Women’s Auxiliary host a cheery Christmas Tea for the women to enjoy. The women are given duffel bags filled with essentials such as blankets, clothing, toiletries, and personal gift items. It is a time of celebration and excitement for all the women.
Through these little ways, it shows the women that someone cares about them and their future and has helped to inspired many women over the years.
Angel Tree
Each holiday season, members of the Women’s Auxiliary spend countless hours collecting new toys for The Army’s Angel Tree Project. The experience enriches the lives of volunteers, as well as the children that receive the gifts at Christmas.
Camp Del Oro
Nestled in the Sierra foothills, Camp Del Oro is a summer residential camp offering five fun-filled days of recreation and education. Campers have an opportunity to appreciate nature in an outdoor setting, while being in a well supervised, safe, and wholesome Christian atmosphere. The Women’s Auxiliary provides funds for various projects at Camp Del Oro from camp scholarships to the building of the camp Snack Shack.
